Granted, if it’s a marriage of money or other convenience, and people don’t love each other to start, there’s not much you can do. But if they do love each other, I see no harm in fortifying what can be fortified so that they’ll have a good life together – some money, as nice a home as possible, and everything we can do to generally reinforce the good feelings between them.

I don´t think that a election for marriage is restricted to a “good party”, but yes, I feel that you are only working on the probability shift of an already existing situation.
Let´s assume the marriage is because of money. No election will create love in my opinion.
